It's a sad day in DeviantART history. To those of you who actually have no clue what I am talking about:
jark, co-founder of DeviantART, has been kicked out by
spyed, the parasitical DeviantART CEO.
I think my thoughts have been summed up pretty well in
a-t-o-m-i-c's
journal, including my own
response.
It's a sad fact that since so many people have absolutely no idea about how DeviantART has developed over the years, Angelo can come up with
blantant lies and serve them to the masses.
Spyed was NEVER a founder of DeviantART, it was founded by
jark and
matteo, and for a long time they were supported by
attila,
arc,
tack and a few others I've forgotten. Spyed may have had a little say
here and there (read the responses as well before judging!) in the background but he was never a founder.
Straight from Angelo's "
statement": "As costs got steeper, along came the subscription and print programs,
which were embraced with open arms by the community."
That's an outright
lie. The place was torn. Especially when they added the "*" to subscribers' user names. I wish I could search the forums, there's plenty of material in there to make Angelo's arguments blow up in his face.
IMPORTANT: A lot of very interesting information can be found on
t52.orgUpdate:
arc, one of the first admins as mentioned above, has a very interesting journal entry:
arc.deviantart.com/journal/610…Please get yourself informed and if you agree, support
jark. A good collection of support and information can be found in
bookdiva's
journal.
Scott, I've bitched at you occasionally, I've had problems once in a while with the way you handle things and I have even
left DeviantART before due to the developing corporatism, but I am not going to let you go down like this. I have a lot to thank you for, met some of
my best friends here and my art has much improved thanks to the feedback I've received through your project.
UPDATE 2005-08-06: Some interesting revelations in
jackdirt's
journal.
